"I'm Going This Way - Try to Keep Up"  - mixed media on paper, 11" x 15".  Available on Artfinder.

[Scene: Climbing the Cliffs. Inigo, Vizzini and Buttercup are clinging to Fezzik, as he climbs a rope to the top]

Inigo: He's climbing the rope. And he's gaining on us.

Vizzini: Inconceivable! [pause] FASTER!

Fezzik: I thought I was going faster.

                 from The Princess Bride
There is quite a scene going on in the studio today.  It's like plate spinning, only imagine paintings doing cartwheels.  A mash-up of deadlines and demos and contracts have created the perfect art storm.  There isn't any thunder or lightning yet, but it is only a matter of time.

I want to complain and moan and whine about how hard this is.  But that would be a big old lie. It is so much fun and is how I work best, really.  Under pressure, forced to just get started so I don't get hung up on the thinking about it.  Swim or swim, I say.  Sinking is not an option.  But I suppose some days, like Fezzik, I only think I am swimming (or climbing faster) when really I'm just treading water.

It is only day four of the paint-a-thon, and already the art is getting bossy.  "Paint this!"  "Try that!"  When you flex your creative muscle, sometimes it gets ahead of you.  Bossy paintings are obnoxious until you pay attention to them (kind of like this big dog who is bumping my arm telling me it is time to eat).  But in the end, following the siren call (or loud yelling) of the paint will generally get you somewhere special.  Now the real question for today is:  will I be able to hear the bossy art calling over the people yelling at the t.v. during the Super Bowl? hmmmm.

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories of play yesterday!  The lucky duck whose name flew out of the hat is Dotty!  "Wilbur" will be flying off to you in Monday's post.  Congratulations!

The invitation/command to Try to Keep Up was all the call I needed to flap my wings furiously until I caught up and almost collided but instead took up-close-and-personal delight in the tiny blue snow crystal forming bottom left, the orange splatter/drips bottom center, and the fine orange fork tines top center. Grand, Jen!

I'm literally laughing out loud, having just read your reply to my comment. As I read your reply, my brow wrinkled with puzzlement, "Congratulations? 'Wilbur'??", so I returned to your post and just NOW read the fine print, so to speak, which I'D TOTALLY MISSED first time through! My eyes must have dismissed the italics as standard blog info or copyright info or other business info that was not part of the post, which had come to a perfect conclusion with its 'hmmmm.' Turns out it WAS business, MY business! THANK YOU!!! SO EXCITED!!!

haaaa! This is hilarious! I'm glad you went back and took a look! But seriously for a minute - good information for me! If italics cue standard blog blah blah blah, I must stop using them! Thanks!!

Trying to keep up.... not so easy where Jen is concerned. Your accomplishments are amazing. Love this little birdie! Love those subtle textures showing through. Collage?

Carol! You are sweet. And here I am struggling to keep up with the art! ha ha! This birdie is actually not collage, but is watercolor, acrylic and charcoal on paper. Just lots of variations in the layers seems to accomplish a similar effect. So fascinating!

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
 birdsong, hold the moon.
