"Elephant Enchantress" - mixed media on canvas, 18" x 24"

On the 9th day,  enchantment visited the studio.

Last year I met a magical lady.  She has  porcelain skin, dark eyes and the most exotic dark hair.  She exudes mystery and creativity and is quietly mesmerizing.  She is a modern day enchantress!  I decided to paint her perched upon an elephant (elephants seem to be my thing lately) casting a spell of bewitchment over the sweet pachyderm.

My belief in modern magic has come full circle. As a youngster, I firmly believed in magic and in magical thinking!  As so many of us did, with a jolly, red suited package delivery man, a chocolate-obsessed rabbit and a strange adult who took our teeth at night in exchange for a few coins, all leading us down the path of fantasy.

As my brain grew into an instrument of logic and analytical thinking, I lost the ability to believe in anything I couldn't see or touch.  My refuge was irrefutable logic and evidence; my curiosity dulled somewhat by my inability to see beyond the tangible world.  Perhaps this is a natural part of human growth and development?  Over time, however, a bit of enchantment began to sneak back into my world.

I read a lot of science (though I can only understand a fraction of it!)  Some years ago there appeared a pattern in the books and articles I was reading...a tiny implication that the more we know as humans, the more mysterious and elegant and brilliant the world seems.  And this is from the viewpoint of scientists, no less.  This acknowledgement and appreciation for the beauty and mystery of the natural world reopened a magic door for me (or pulled a rabbit out of a hat?) and concepts such as karma and chakras and quantum physics became tangled in one web of delight.

And then along came this delightful modern enchantress, pointing me down the road of leonine synchronicity and creative kismet, now perched upon an elephant.

This piece is available, unframed.  Inquiries: imajenation@gmail.com

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
 birdsong, hold the moon.
