30 Paintings in 30 Days - Day Three

"Blue Door" - acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, 6" x 6"

Day three!  This time a little piece inspired by a photograph of a mayan child on a street in front of an incredible blue door.  Instead of thickly layered paint applied by palette knife, for this piece more time was spent scraping multiple thin layers of paint onto the canvas to achieve the weathered patina of the stucco'd walls and pavement.  Once again, I was thrilled to be able to complete 90% of this painting without using a brush.

There is a cold front coming our way overnight.  It started with clouds and heavy rain late this afternoon, to be followed by temperatures no getting out of the 70's for a few days.  Now to many of you north of here, that may not seem like much of a cold front, but for us it was a lovely excuse to pull out a sweater and curl up in front of a movie for the afternoon.

I am not much of a resolution maker, but for the coming year I am determined to spend more time doing nothing.  Or being more aimless in what I am doing.  Like a lazy afternoon watching a movie, or an early morning on the patio with a cup of tea watching the strange head-bobbing rituals of waterfowl.  It might seem counter-intuitive to have a goal of doing less, but over and over again this is the message I get from the universe.   And it goes hand in hand with being present - enjoying this moment, right now.

The universe appears to be quite jubilant over my decision to listen to its message!  The movie  (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel- one of the few sequels which is as good as the original)   ended this afternoon with this line: "There is no present like the time."  So off I go to enjoy this time doing as little as I get get away with.

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
 birdsong, hold the moon.
