Embrace the Tiger

"Embrace the Tiger" - mixed media on cradled wood panel, 11" x 14" x 1".  Available at The Salty Teacup.

Whimsical wonderland continues this week with a surly cat doing his best to remain calm while feathered friends explore his luxurious fur.    This piece was created just for The Salty Teacup in St Johns, where a heap of malarkey unfolds this Friday from 5 - 8 pm.  This is my first showing in Portland, and I couldn't be more delighted by the venue!  A shop filled with shenanigans and quirky wonder, and some of the wittiest swashbuckling shopkeepers the world has ever known. :)

Finding your tribe in a new land is both adventure-filled and stressful.  So many unknowns!  And for introverted creative types, it requires a caffeine-fortified pirate-accented tutu-wearing approach:
  • don't even THINK about exploring your new habitat until you are fully awake and feeling fueled
  • know your story!  If it feels better telling your story in an "ARGHHHH" filled accent, go for it!
  • wear something that feels good - a tutu is eye-catching, but your favorite boots will do as well.
  • be prepared for the universe to open wide and cover you in a refreshing deluge of inspiration, new friends, opportunities and sprightly connections.  Seriously!
  • if you have a magic wand, keep it in your car (or your bag). You never know when you might need it.
It has been just over four months since we planted ourselves in Portland, and already I've met a healer, a shaman, a moon-whisperer, a rug wizard, a book maven, a rebel, a tree advocate, two yodeling hound dogs, burlesque clowns, drag queens, a modern-day caveman, a 90 year-old plant nurturer and a rabbit named Bellatrix Lestrange (to name a few).

If you're in the neighborhood Friday evening, pop in to The Salty Teacup for a little malarkey-filled adventure of your own.  You just never know who you might meet along the way. :)

Hi. I was just thinking about you, and mostly about your work, this morning. I love your whimsical work because it is unique. I look at my Red Cat every day in my studio. I wake up to him, see him throughout the day, and bid him good nite at the end of the day. And my other stuff of yours. I love them because, once again, they are unique.

Risa! Thank you, sweet lady! You are such a bright light in the world...I am deeply honored to have my little creatures resonate with you, a person who feels creatures so deeply. Big hugs!
