"The Narrow Path to Nuptials" - mixed media on panel

Oh, what FUN!  This project, part of the World & Eye Arts Center - Telling Tales: Stories of Home exhibit, was two days and no more.  Two days to paint 6 feet of panel, hand print papers and design fabulous clothing for the characters.  Well, and to listen to the story and figure out what to paint!

Follow the journey of Gerri Sant - listen to her story of home here.

I was tickled by Gerri's wry sense of humor, so the concept came quickly and the characters came ALIVE for me, demanding exactly what to wear and where to pose.  I am gaga over these two!  It was sad to see them leave my studio and head off to the World & Eye Arts Center. I've instructed my husband to begin looking for doors or panels at the curb, in addition to reclaimed wood. I can just see a series of these couples hanging out in my house.

Thanks so much for the link, enjoyed Gerri's story very much. Your panels are amazing, especially liked the one with the toilet. I liked they way your couple is displayed, one bigger than the other and not especially older than the other.

Hi Carol! Thank you so much! The "toilet" panel is the only one for this show...the others are just random pieces of my art hanging in my studio. :) This was a really fun project, which I was able to do because of all the training 30 in 30 gives us to work fast!!!

Clearly, I need someone to commission a huge painting to be completed in a short amount of time—with any luck I could up the size of my usual work tenfold, reduce the amount of time in equal measure, and have FABULOUS results! Jen, what a tremendous gift. Your title, and the toilet, are inspired! Your gelliprints magnificent. Your self-expression wonderfully BIG. I listened to and enjoyed the story. Where does your panel now go?

On a different slant, oh my gosh, just went out for coffee with my husband, and the living embodiment of one of your painted characters walked in—a wispy little four-year-old girl with print dress and hugely spectacular mass of white-blond curls haloed around her narrow little face and elfin eyes. I just know I'm going to see her again at your blog one of these days.

Dotty! It is amazing what we can do under pressure, right? The panel will be part of the exhibit at World and Eye for two months. The audio loops will be playing for each piece as well. I can't wait to see it there!

OOOOOOOH! I am sure she was one of my muses!!!! ha ha! I just love those little ones with the crazy hair and print dresses. So adorable!!!!!
