Sun Bleached bones

"Sun Bleached Bones" - mixed media on paper, 18" x 12".  Available here and at Artfinder.

Our penultimate week in south Florida.  Eighty-five million loads of post-holiday laundry (only a slight exaggeration) and a few tears as the last of the kids leaves to resume their adult lives far away.  And the beginning of packing up an entire household.

We've opted to do this ourselves.  Given the condition of my spine, this actually means Rons has chosen to do this HIMSELF, with me cheerfully nagging from the sidelines.  But I can label boxes and sort unwanted things to beat the band,  And now our garage is a hodgepodge of ready to fill boxes and filled and labeled boxes.  God help the movers, I say.  It's quite a melee in there.

The studio is one of the first things we packed - extra care taken while our energy is still high.  We are leaving me a just few bits to create with over the next two weeks.

Sometimes I enjoy having less to work with.  It makes me stretch - reach for the things I have and figure out how to make do.
This piece began as an old sketch - I painted an abstract on top and couldn't quite get it resolved.  Hidden inside the shapes was this figure...and fueling the design were thoughts of a close friend who is going through some tough times.  Words torn from one of the books not yet packed.  An odd poem, but I think it works.

Just a few tubes of paint remaining.  One more old sketch to transform.  And one last demonstration this evening.  Now where did I put the coffee mugs?

"Once Upon and Artist - Telling Tales and Selling Art" will be the featured demo at the Weston Art Guild meeting Monday, November 26th at 7pm.  Learn how to swashbuckle like a pirate, hold court like a queen and sell your art!

NOTICE: Intense scenes of malarkey and whigmaleerie. May not be appropriate for all audiences. Some giddiness, goofiness and baddassery may result.

I've been thinking of you often, Jen, knowing your move is on the visible horizon, and wondering how you'd pack what with your spine not being what it used to be. Love knowing that you are the official labeler, sorter of unwanted things, and sidelines nag!

Fascinated by the process that led to your beautiful painting. Wow!

I have no interest in living in south Florida, but I DO wish I could attend your demo this evening : )

Dotty! If only Pongo could pack! ha ha! "Sidelines Nag" is my official title for the week. Fortunately, our children have "shopped" their way through the house and taken everything they want, so there isn't a whole lot left to pack.

I wish you could be here, too! Just for the demo, of course. Not for the heat, hurricanes, gnats and gators...ha ha!

All the best to you all. I think I would be hiding under the bed! And a demo too! Oh how I wish I could be a fly on your wall... a good fly!
Your painting caught my eye... so dramatic... Is that pose from croquis? I am working on a very similar pose! Maybe I will finish it this morning at workshop..serendipity!

Carol! You could only be a good fly. :) And, you have a good EYE! Yes, Croquis. Trying to find interesting poses which aren't overly posed, if you know what I mean? Cannot wait to see what you do with a similar one. I just adore your figure work...
