"If I Were King of the Chickens" - mixed media on paper, 9" x 12"
Day seven! Throwback Thursday and a return to doodling...this fancy fowl brought a smile to my face (and a chuckle to my household) and reminded me of how much I LOVE ink work. It is like being able to put a tattoo on anything you wish, without any discomfort or messiness. Chickens are a recurring theme in my life, but always in completely strange and mysterious ways. From my memories of "CHICKEN MAN" (a radio show in Philly) to my experience with an English fortune teller (who predicted I would live near trees, raise a grandchild and be near chickens - all of which came true!), to my father-in-law sending me to the market for chicken feet (eeeeuuuuu) chickens are like some strange subplot of Monty-Python style. Chicken wisdom in shamanic tradition has to do with voice - hearing your inner voice, using your voice and finding answers which elude others and speaking them into the world. Now the chicken is the perfect animal totem for Mercury Retrograde (which is going on right now, if you haven't felt its effects!) as she provides protection for family and home. Chickens are said to feel the vibrations of the earth and are empaths, providing an early warning system for dangers to come. So there you have it! Chicken humor and chicken wisdom all rolled into one cock-a-DOODLE piece! If you haven't had enough of this malarkey and magic, sign up for "HARE-DO" at Ciel Gallery in February, where we will make mischief of the doodling kind with ridiculous rabbits, hilarious hares and boisterous bunnies!
