"Desdemona, Enchantress of Crows" - mixed media on board, 12" x 12"
Day ten! Mercury retrograde is making mischief with my day, so I decided to fight mischief with magic. Enchantment, actually. My world would be better if I had a flock of loyal minions to do my bidding. Perhaps some enchanted crows? This piece didn't quite meet my goal of 90% without brushes, but it was close. I was delighted to find some of my gelli-print papers in a box, and one of them turned into a lovely dress for my enchantress. On most days, I head straight for my studio after breakfast and throw paint around before doing anything else. Today, however, we all slept in a bit and then decided to take in an early movie ("The Revenant")...we were all settled in our seats at one of those posh theaters with recliners, the previews were over, the movie began and then - nothing. Screen went blank, emergency lights came on. A power outage. The audience (packed full, sold out) was in good spirits, and decided to wait it out with a sense of humor. On came the cell phone flashlights and shadow puppets entertained us for a good 30 minutes. Some people were good at the puppets, others with sound effects and dialogue. It was quite wonderful! And it was delightful to see people relaxed and happy despite the delay. After 40 minutes, the theater owners announced that it could be hours before the movie started. Argh! But full refunds plus free passes to another movie were given, and so the crowds stayed happy and all went on their merry way. So we never did see the movie, but did get a renewed sense of the goodness of people and a lesson in handling mercury retrograde mischief with humor and playfulness. And I ended up in the studio earlier in the day after all.
