"Burnishing, Erasing" - oil on Yupo, 20.5 x 22
"We all impose some coherence—some meaning—on the chaotic events of our existence. We rummage through the raw images of our memories, selecting, burnishing, erasing. We emerge as the heroes of our stories, allowing us to live with what we have done—or haven’t done.”
― David Grann, The Wager: A Tale of Mutiny and Murder
I once spent a year reading all of Pat O-Brian's series Master and Commander. I was lost at sea in my imagination that entire year. So recently, when my husband and I read Grann's The Wager, I found my sea-legs again and began mentally wandering the high seas in search of adventure. It was just a matter of time before it appeared in the paint.
