"The Bag Lady" - mixed media on repurposed plywood, 31" x 19".  Ready to hang.  Inquiries.

[Scene: Boy's bedroom]
Grandson: Aw, no. No, please.
Grandfather: What is it? What's the matter?
Grandson: They're kissing again. Do we have to hear the kissing part?
Grandfather: Someday, you may not mind so much.

    from The Princess Bride

Our children were of two minds on parents kissing.  As little ones, they couldn't get enough of that.  Kissing was sweet and encouraged.  But once they were ten and up, well, parents kissing became worse than the plague, liver and onions and picking up dog poop all rolled into one icky thing.  It is no surprise the grandson in our book of the month felt the similarly.

I look forward to the day when our kids will find it sweet once more.

The frog songs outside our back door are deafening at night as spring unfolds in Florida.  There is a whole lot of kissing going on out by the lake. :)

But enough of the smooching.  You might be wondering - what the heck is going on with this flamingo?

This fancy gal is heading to a show sponsored by the 6 Hands Collaborative (a dynamic group of artists I truly admire) and is a response to a challenge called The Bag Project.  Now I have painted on paper bags as substrate, used them as collage materials and used them to schlep my art supplies around.  But never to make fancy clothes for a flamingo.

And yes, I just had to get one more flamingo out of my system.

It was quite revelatory to discover that paper bags, once gesso'd and painted, feel a lot like leather, and can be folded and formed much the same as fabric.  So a fancy collar for a fancy girl.  Maybe "bag lady" will become the new couture?

Bag Lady! SO much more stylish then her down-at-the-heels friends who sometimes sport six-pack-rings as necklaces.

And, LIGHTBULB!, I have TONS of paper bags here in my home. Ima make me a new wardrobe!

Dotty!!!! You totally CAN! Once the gesso is on, and then the paint, these bags are really leathery and can take a beating! I see a whole clothing line in your future!!
