About the art: this canvas has been murdered many times. Layers and layers of overly precious brush strokes, dabs and do-das. Each time I dragged the squeegee across it and said NO NO NO, that just won't do. And finally, letting the feelings direct the painting, I allowed the darkness to hover, the drama and big strokes to take over, and the tiny bit of light to emerge. And (drum roll please) - the winners of the November Reader Giveaway! Congratulations to Nance F. and Emma F. - Wonder Mike chose your names at random from the pool of this month's commenters. Send your mailing address to thewanderingsoflola!gmail.com and your original artworks will be in the mail to you! Big thanks to everyone who participated. A new contest begins next month!

Dotty!!! You just have a way of seeing the things I often miss - like how my self-portrait is playing with the recent work. How delightful! Thank you! xo

Oh my, this is gorgeous! Sometimes the only way to survive the fire is to endure the flame and walk through it. There is strength that comes from surviving the harsh realities. I am sure over time it becomes easier when you have grown little by little through it all. Like strengthening a muscle. I too often try to avoid the challenges, but I know I am doing a disservice to myself. I can't fully heal and grow if I'm not willing to put in the work. There is a time for rest and a time for work. I can't always hide away. The blessing of having others to take your hand and walk through the flame with us in immense though. We don't have to always struggle on our own. It helps so much to read the thoughts of other fighters and survivors. I feel much more hopeful and less alone knowing that other people are kind, thoughtful and caring individuals. It helps give me strength in my journey!

Sara!!! You are so so so right - other fighters and survivors validate our stories and let us know we aren't alone, are NOT broken, are simply struggling and fighting as best we can.
