All About You

"You Are Loved", "You Are Beauty", "You are Good", "Be Nice to You" - acrylic on panel, each 8" x 8" x .25".  Ready to hang.  Available here and at Artfinder.

Today's post is all about YOU!

You are LOVED!
You are BEAUTY!
You are GOOD!
and therefore, be nice to YOU!

Our inner dialogue can be like a pack of demon hounds from hell.  The inner critic, inner naysayer, inner voice that tells us we aren't good enough.  Sometimes I think it is a lifelong battle to shush that voice and listen to what is good and wonderful about ourselves.

And I'm pretty sure I am not alone on this one.

So this week the studio is aflutter with little replacements for that inner trouble-maker. Imagine a herd of beastly picketers lined up on your sidewalk holding signs of support for you in the world.  Reminders to fill your sweet self with encouragement.

I've also started work on a new abstract experiment - trying to replicate the feel of last week's salvaged plywood but on a new board.  Beginning with the application of dimensional grounds and thick white gesso, followed by gold and black gesso and then paint beaten to smithereens (a highly advanced art technique, I assure you) with scrapers, chopsticks and palette knives. I'll be using a limited color palette again, but more vibrant.  My wise intern says I should give you a peek at the painting in progress, even if that makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Here's the progression so far - it will be fun to see how this piece ends up.  In the meantime, off you go, waving your flag of marvelousness. :)

Fiona, thumbs up for not letting Jen be a slacker! Love the process photos! Love the process!

Jen, that brilliant red against the turquoisy blue—yum! You are rocking this painting in progress : )

Dotty! Thank you! Using these very limited color choices is so helpful in keeping the contrast sharp and not muddying everything. The struggle now will be not over blending, not toning it down too much but still making it elevated. ACK!

Carol! Absolutely DO make some for yourself! We are so quick to think negative or discouraging thoughts about ourselves. A reminder of our basic goodness and beauty is a must!!!!

Chopsticks are one of my favorite tools - for scraping, for making marks and for mixing paint!

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
