Stop Stop Stop
from Instructions For Stopping by DANA LEVIN
When we left off, I was counting a flock of chickens before they hatched.
Hiking chickens, adventure chickens, solitude and surf and sand chickens. That'll learn me. An unexpected medical complication landed me smack on the sofa for most of our planned vacation. Someone must have whispered STOP STOP STOP. (It wasn't me, I swear it!)
I will appreciate our next hiking adventure even more.
There is a silver lining in being forced to stop. When you can do very little, you spend a lot of time looking - looking at the art, the writing, the website, the shop, the dust accumulating on the bookshelves and the cobwebs in one's head and art practice. There are many insights simmering in the cauldron of my mind.
And so we shall see what kind of soup results from this slow simmer over the coming weeks and months. The Yupo fairy (a dear friend) dropped a heap of Yupo (in various formats I had never even heard of) on my doorstep and now the imagination is running and ooooohing and aaaaaaahing and generally making me impatient.
Soon. Soon. Soon.
About the art: another murder. It is truly murder season very early here! This was a figurative piece on Yupo, not a bad piece but one that made me say "so what?" So I grabbed a palette knife and a color theme of sorts and went to work. Once I had the main composition in, I let it dry for a good long time, then returned with brushes, chopsticks, a smaller palette knife and and eye hell bent on deconstructing what I had just created. The resulting texture makes me very happy.

Here is your weekly dose of malarkey!
BUT it's not just the colors, it is the colors dancing the tango with layering, dimensionality, shape, shadow, surprise, and landscape. Pure genius. I am smitten.
And, I am laughing out loud at Instructions for Stopping. Those feisty fricative p's do NOT want to be … stopped.
