30 Paintings in 30 Days - Day 13

"Red Sky Morning" - ink and acrylic on aquabord, 6" x 6"

A quick abstract landscape as I catch up from a day of non-stop meetings on Monday.  I found myself contemplating the sing-song superstitions of my childhood today: Red sky morning, sailor's warning and step on a crack, you break your mother's back.  How do these get stuck in my head?

Some of these are a bit ominous, kind of like the fairy tales of old.  Not really meant for anyone under a certain age, because they were quite frightening!  Grimm's fairy tales, for example, are pretty gory, and not for the faint hearted.  Not wanting these particular birds to nest in my head, I decided to tackle a project I was sure would bring a bright spot in the day.

I put on my apron and grabbed a recipe I brought back from Nourish by Nature in Ireland.  Gluten-free bread.  Now it was both delicious and nutritious when I sampled it there, but could I recreate that here in my own kitchen?  After years of a gluten-free life and literally hundred of loaves of cardboard "bread" in lieu of the real thing, I didn't have high hopes.  Ten minutes of mixing and 30 minutes in the oven later, and MAGIC!  Real, live BREAD!  Rising gloriously, crust browned and beautiful, thick as regular bread and still moist!  Sid is a miracle maker, and I am nominating him for bread sainthood.
A day with freshly-baked, delicious bread, for a gluten-free girl, is like Christmas, Disney World and the Clear the Racks sale at Nordstrom Rack all rolled into one heavenly moment.  My faith in miracles, restored, I now rename this painting, "Red Sky Night" (Sailor's Delight!).  Thanks, Sid!

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
 birdsong, hold the moon.
