Always be a Unicorn

"Sweet Marta" - mixed media on reclaimed wood. 18" x 7.5" x 1".  Ready to hang.  Available on Artfinder.

Another sweet face emerged from the pile of wood in my studio this week.  This one inspired by a lady with the biggest heart I know, whose life's motto is "love", and she lives it every day.  Thank you, dear Marta, for being a sweet presence on the planet.

It's been a week of inner turmoil and redefining self, as I continue to explore the question of "what place stacked my bones?" which seems to remain the central theme of my days.  The answers are becoming clearer with each round of questioning.

I'm participating in "Stories of Home" this month at World & Eye, creating pieces which will carry my stories and show them to the world.  My very own story, the one I've lived for nearly 55 years, changed this week. Figuring out how to translate it into art is both challenging and therapeutic.  And the universe, with its uncanny sense of timing, presented this art project at exactly the right time.

More to come as I plummet down the rabbit hole.  In the meantime, I'll stick with these sage words: Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn.  Then, always be a unicorn.  Wisdom from whimsy.

Jen, could you arrange to have a small show of your Wood Scraps Art at the building, once it is fully operational, from which all the scraps have come? I think it'd be so cool. Invite the construction workers and the people who live/work in the building, and the architects, and the bankers who gave the loan, and the interior designers/decorators, and the unicorns, and people who like art.

Your mention of turmoil and redefining resonate here. And, your words en-courage me to keep daring and plummeting. Thank you.

Dotty! What a great idea!!! Of course, then I would have to fess up that I am clambering over their scrap heaps when the workers have gone home every weekend...ha ha!

It's always something, right? We break it down so we can build it up stronger and better, more supportive and true. Keep daring, wild woman!

Carol! you CAN tell and paint your stories! There are tales in each of us just waiting to burst out onto the canvas....and be put into a paper dress. :)

What a great idea! Now you're giving me no excuse to keep avoiding an art history class...:)

Here's the blue wild, where
