"Strangely In-Between" (a work in process)
acrylic on cradled wood panel

When near the end of day, life has drained
Out of light, and it is too soon
For the mind of night to have darkened things,

No place looks like itself, loss of outline
Makes everything look strangely in-between,
Unsure of what has been, or what might come.

from "For the Interim Time" by John O'Donohue

This is a painting between stages, inspired by the in-between space so many of us are in with the world being a bit topsy-turvy.  This one is slowly coming to life, whispering what she wants to be, forming and re-forming under many layers of paint.  She's  not in any hurry, and so I won't rush her.
The full moon returned this weekend, reminding us of the constancy of certain things.  A little comfort - a celestial anchor.  And also a lovely, heavenly and glowing birthday balloon in the sky!  All the Leos out there might be dancing beneath it.   As I should be, exercising after a week of cake and cake and more cake and adventure and excess and little sleep.

One of the little guilty pleasures I had this week was spending an entire evening ogling this book , The Vanities by Terence Lawlor.  Can you say COLLAGE SMORGASBORD?  My eyes are still popping out of my head.  You're going to want one.  And then you will never throw away another piece of paper again. You're welcome.

We are all in that in between space right now. It’s hard to believe I get excited by what were once routine outings like the post office or the grocery store. Well excited and a bit terrified too. Love the O’Donohue quote. I might have to dig up his interview on Krista Tippit’s On Being podcast and give it a good listen.

Carl! Isn't it fun how we get excited by the little outings now? We are here in a place where we don't know what's next...but we know it WILL change. Excited and terrified is a good way to live at the edge of your eyeballs...

You are so welcome, Dotty! I am learning to share the bits in process - which terrifies me to some extent, since they often change so much by the end. But your delight in seeing it makes it all worthwhile! xo

Whoa! This is a haunting piece.....and that hair! You have intrigued me enough that I went to Amazon and ordered this book. Wish I were dancing under the moon tonight, instead I am hunkering in for Isaias....right now it is just the calm before the storm....

Carolyn! Isaias while at the beach, yes? Sending all kinds of good mojo your way! And you are going to LOOOOOOOVE this book! Time for a collage day, I believe! As for the painting - thanks for your feedback. I am excited to find out who she is.

My main outings: supermarket. pool, library, and pharmacy (when needed) Actually was glad to see that the library was really jumping, guess we all are learning that there is something in just spending time with a good book.
This looks already finished to me... I am so cautious not to overwork... I would rather have it on the unfinished side of the equation!
Will you be taking Pauline's portrait class? She is doing some really awesome work !

Carol, those little outings are such a treat these days!

Thanks for your comment on the piece - you know me, I let each one go through so many phases. I suppose I could stop anywhere along the way! But I wait until they tell me "done." And YES! I will be taking it! Super excited!

Here's the blue wild, where
tiny dreamers ride beasts, speak
