Flooding

"Flooding" - acrylic on mat board, 13" x 11".  Ready to frame. Available here and at Artfinder.

Another three-color piece with my new favorite substrate, mat board.  Who knew?  That and a catalyst wedge and I am in my happy place.  There are four huge projects going on in the studio right now, but taking time to do something unstructured (and not on a deadline or for a show or for a client) helps keep my creative mojo cartwheeling.  And that darned universe, with it's odd duck sense of humor, titled this painting for me when a bushel of snowballs careened through my day, knocking down priorities and nearly causing me a flood of tears.

There's nothing quite like a visit to the dentist, a spike in the tire, a deal falling apart and a migraine setting in to bring on a good old fashioned cry.  But I decided instead to start being grateful, right in the middle of a near meltdown.   I am grateful for novocaine.  I am grateful for tire repair shops and a husband who doesn't mind rescuing me now and then.  I am grateful for the ability to spin many plates.  I am grateful for ice packs when my head hurts.  You get the idea.  Maybe you already do this?  My instincts are to do the opposite.  But this time, THIS TIME I made myself list things I was thankful for.

By the end of the day, that train had turned around and the snowballs and near tears became one lovely thing after another.  Well I'll be darned.  And now I am grateful for the ability to be grateful.  And for this outrageously quirky video, which tickles my fancy.  Who knew there were recorder players with music videos?

First of all, AWESOME SENSE OF HUMOR, Vladimir! Oh my gosh, that video warmed my heart in a most welcome way.

My instinct is to complain and whine, or so I self-characterize, but, like you, maybe I really DON'T always fall into the above. I am actively grateful for so much every single day. For instance, I am grateful for your art and your writing, both of which are your generous heart sharing yourself with us. I am grateful for your story today.

"Flooding" carries fluid energy in abundance. I can feel the flood. But ALSO the brightening, the clarity, the refreshment, and the new hope that wash in when the water washes away.

ha ha! Somehow I knew you would get Vladimir! He reminds me of Squidward on SpongeBob...dorky yet adorable.

Thank you for seeing the brightening in the flood, and for your connection and friendship. :) I am grateful for you, dear Dotty!!!

Carl! Thanks, friend! Sometimes I do the smart thing. Most times not, but practice, practice, practice and I just might get better at thinking GOOD thoughts!

Like Dotty I love your art and writings! Also glad that you were able to turn around your day. We sometimes let our thoughts run away in our head and make things worse than they are.. I have one of those Princeton brushes, love it. Hope to buy one of those wedges.

Carol! Thank you so SO much! So I will put a Princeton brush on my wish list then! And yep, thoughts become things. So I am going to focus on the good ones. :)

Here's the blue wild, where
