Horse Rings and Meandering(s)

There are horse rings on the curbs in Portland.  Many of them with tiny plastic horses attached.   A reminder of days gone by, when actual horses waited by the curb.

There are fairy rings in Ireland.  Surrounded by trees in the middle of fields.  Places to avoid, lest ye be taken to another realm unwillingly.

There are meanderings....places we wander to and through and around.  Sometimes they result in both perspiration and inspiration.

Meanderings are fodder for everything.

For epiphanies and musings, contemplation and conversation, letting go and latching on.  I've discovered how very present I can be while meandering.

A meander is as good as a wander for becoming present.  And so we recently meandered to the beach for a little vacation full of wanders.  Where I felt very present.

Back in the studio, preparation for a slew of upcoming shows in is progress...there are a ton of "littles" and a couple of wildly wonderful big pieces in progress (can you say VARMINTS?) as the muse has decided to dump a bucket of whimsy on my head.  Ouch.  And yum (whimsy tastes a lot like pie).

So while I meander over to the paper towels to remove some of this mess on my head, I want to know - what's your favorite varmint?  Leave a comment below.  One lucky commenter will receive a little surprise in the mail courtesy of my studio hound, Wonder Mike.  He's in charge of give-aways and says its waaaaaaaay past time. :)

Well I had to go search what animals are considered varmint.....and was quite surprised to learn the fox is one! So I am voting a fox but only because I don’t remember seeing one you’ve painted before?

I’m a big fan of the 3 toed sloth as far as varmints go.

Activity is a great gateway to being present. You would think it requires focusing on being present but rather it happens when you let go a little and focus on something else. It can be your breathing while you walk or it could be any creative activity. Getting lost in what you are doing prepares you for being present. At least that’s what I find.

Growing up in North Carolina, I heard just about any kind of beast called varmint--though the term usually referred to a critter you didn't want in your back yard or garden. Sometimes the word even referred to critters of the two-legged variety, as in, "You ornery varmint!" (Or maybe I'm remembering that one from my brother's viewing of Hopalong Cassidy on TV.)

Mary! Varmints are, indeed, those thieving no-good rascals that we don't want in the yard! Or those two-legged ornery varmints! Ha ha! And who knew Hopalong Cassidy would be mentioned in this blog? Ha ha! (Wonder Mike says thank you for participating!)

I have a rabbit in the neighborhood who on occasion loves to eat the beautiful potted flowers by my front door. I suspect it got a little more than it bargained for after eating all the pansies and then moving onto the Black Pearl pepper plant! 🥵 It dropped that like a hot potato on my doormat.

I don’t know if a rabbit classifies as a varmint, but I consider it one when it eats my flowers!

I'm going with the badger (the North American variety). It's not a cuddly, sweetie-pie creature. Don't mess (more polite term) with the badger! These days, the badger and I have a lot in common.

Carol! Love the badger and its crankiness. And you, cuddly sweetie-pie, are no badger. :)
